’Crowded Inside’ is an exploration of anxiety as a physical state, thoughts and feelings looping inward, curling, tightening, swirling slowly and inexorably, gathering weight and pressure. The spiralling snails suggest a heavy uncomfortable body, suspended in a black space that evokes anxiety and the feeling of being lost, suspended in the dark.
I have carved this in lemonwood and printed it on Hereford paper.
